By motivFIT

Not long ago, the term "boot camp" meant a training program for new military recruits. The concepts used were then applied in correctional facilities for young people. Today, anyone can go to "boot camp" to get in shape. But why would one want to do such a thing? Because they work!

My wife, Carrie, and I have been providing Fitness Camps in Las Vegas since 2006. In fact, we were the first company in Las Vegas to start a Fitness Camp provided by certified personal trainers. I can tell you that these workouts are by far the most effective way to drop body fat and tone in the shortest amount of time.

HOW BOOT CAMP STYLE TRAINING WORKS

To have a full understanding on why boot camp style training works, you need to first understand the science behind this type of training and how the human body works.

Here's my attempt to give you a brief exercise physiology lesson, so that you can understand how the human body works and how it reacts to certain exercise and fitness programs. One of the main objectives of the human body is to expend as little energy as possible. In order to do this, it must willingly adapt to demands placed on it.

The human body is a highly adaptable organism, with the capability to streamline physical and mental stress over time, using minimal energy. To battle this, you need to capitalize on the caloric expenditure of your workouts.

This is done by maximizing the oxygen consumption needed for the duration of your workout. This recovery oxygen consumption is known as excess postexercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). What exactly is EPOC? EPOC is simply the state in which the body's metabolism is elevated after exercise. This means that the body is burning more calories after exercise than before the exercise was initiated. After exercise, the body must use increased amounts of oxygen to reload energy supplies, lower tissue temperature, and return the body to a resting state.

Research has indicated that the higher intensity ( percentage of VO2 max or percentage of HR max) of your workouts, the greater the magnitude of EPOC.
